Number of Pancreas Transplants

This 1998 IPTR Annual Report analyzes reported cases for the three major recipient categories: simultaneous pancreas kidney transplants (SPK); pancreas after kidney transplants (PAK); and pancreas transplants alone (PTA).

Cases reported for 1998 were included in analyses when a complete record was available. These analyses are for the 1994-1998 pancreas transplants.

Please see the previous reports for prior years' data.

As of December 1998, more than 11,000 pancreas transplants have been reported to the IPTR. These include over 8,800 performed in the USA and over 2600 from outside the USA (Figure 1).

Since 1987, reporting has been obligatory for US cases while reporting to the IPTR for non-US cases is voluntary. Thus, it is likely that the number of non-US cases is higher than the total recorded here, but still less than the number of US cases.
