United States pancreas transplants by recipient categories from 1988 through 1998 are shown in Figure 2. The majority of the cases have been simultaneous pancreas kidney transplants (SPK). Pancreas after kidney (PAK) transplants have increased significantly over time to more than 10% per year (p=0.0001). Pancreas transplants alone (PTA) have remained relatively constant, 4-5% of all transplants per year.
