Pancreas Graft Duct Management

From 1987-93 the great majority of pancreas transplants were performed using bladder drainage (BD) as the duct management technique. However, since 1994, the proportion of enteric drained (ED) US pancreas transplant cases has increased (Figure 7). For 1996-2000 US cadaveric cases with a complete record for analysis (n=3481), 55% of SPKs were reported using ED as the duct management method. For PAKs and PTAs, ED was 46% and 41% respectively. The use of a Roux-en-Y loop with ED has been decreasing in cases where duct management method was reported: since 1996, most have been done without a Roux-en-Y. For non-US cases since 1994, the proportion of ED versus BD non-US pancreas transplant cases has steadily increased and has been >50% since 1998 (Figure 8).
