Pancreas Graft Immunological Loss

Pancreas graft survival rates improved over time as a result of both lower TF rates and lower immunological graft losses. For all technically successful (TS) cases with DWFG censored, immunological pancreas graft loss at 1 year decreased over time when comparing the 1987-93 era to the 1998-2000 era: SPK from >8% to 2%; PAK from >27% to 6%; PTA from 37% to 12%. The greatest decrease was during 1994-95, when Tac and MMF began to be used, and continued into 1996-97, but not thereafter.

Immunological (rejection or autoimmune recurrence of disease) graft loss rate at 1 year for 1996-2000 USA cadaveric pancreas transplants was significantly lower for SPK (2%) than PAK (6%) and PTA (8%) (Figure 18). These differences in GSRs among the categories are greater in this overall analysis than in the subgroup of BD grafts who received the anti-T cell/ MMF/Tac regimen, as seen above in Figure 17a and 17b.
