USA Immunosuppression Therapy

For 1996-2000 US cadaver pancreas transplants, pancreas graft function for each category was analyzed by the use of anti-T cell agents for induction and by which immunosuppression combination of Azathioprin (Aza), Cyclosporine (CsA), Mycophenalate Mofetil (MMF) and Tacrolimus (Tac) was used for initial maintenance immunosuppression. For anti-T cell analysis of outcome by agent, the groups based on similarity were defined as: Zenapax=Zenapax & Simulect; ATG=ATG & ALG; OKT3=OKT3 (Figure 13-18). Recipients given more than one class of agent (e.g. ATG + Zenapax; <4% of 1996-2000 cases) were not included in the agent-comparison analysis, but were included in the analysis of maintenance immunosuppression according to whether or not anti-T cell agents were used for induction. Since 1994, the most common maintenance immunosuppression combination has been Tac and MMF.
