Pancreas Transplants by Category

United States pancreas transplants by recipient category from 1988 through 2000 are shown in Figure 35. The majority of all transplant cases per year were SPK, with PAK increasing significantly over time to more than 10% per year and PTA to about 5% per year.

Pancreas transplants outside the US between 1988 and 2000 reported to the IPTR are shown by recipient category in Figure 36. The vast majority of the cases were SPK as in the US. Compared to US totals the proportion of PAK and PTA transplants was lower, but did show a small increase in 2000.
