USA Pancreas Graft Outcomes by Induction Therapy

Pancreas GSRs in 1996-2002 US cadaver primary pancreas transplant recipients who were given Tac+MMF for maintenance therapy were analyzed according to antibody induction used: none; depleting antibody; non-depleting antibody; depleting+non-depleting antibodies. These induction therapy analyses were done for each of the major recipient groups: SPK, PAK, PTA.

SPK Outcome by Induction Therapy

For SPK MMF+Tac recipients, 1-year GSRs were highest for non-depleting antibodies, but differences were small: 83%-87% (Figure 16). For BD recipients there were no significant GSR differences by induction therapy, but for ED recipients the differences were significant even though small (p=0.02): GSR range at two years 80% for no antibodies to 86% for non-depleting antibodies.

PAK Outcome by Induction Therapy

For PAK MMF+Tac recipients, there was no significant difference by induction therapy protocol in overall pancreas GSRs at one-year: 79%-81% (Figure 17a). This was also true for the BD subset, but for the ED subset 1-year GSRs were highest at 81% using non-depleting antibodies (p=0.12). PAK has the largest retransplant group; GSRs were not statistically different by induction therapy, but tended to be higher with the use of antibodies for induction vs. no induction antibodies (Figure 17b).
