Historical Era: USA Technical Failure


TF rates decreased significantly over time for cadaver US pancreas transplants. For 1987-92 TF rates: 14 % SPK (n=1,928), 20% for PAK (n=133) and 24% for PTA (n=102); for 1999-2002: 8% SPK (n=3,394), 8% PAK (n=799), and 10% PTA (n=331) (Figure 19). Currently differences in TF rates across categories are not significant (p=0.19). Earlier era TF rates for PAK and PTA may have been higher due to early rejections being reported as technical. As shown in SPK cases, ED TF rates fell over time to be similar to BD TF rates: for 1987-92: 29% ED (n=62) vs. 14% BD (n=1,847) (p=0.008); for 1999-2002: 9% ED (n=2,363) vs. 7% BD (n=711) (p=0.12).
