USA Pancreas Graft Duct Management

By duct management technique, bladder drained (BD) versus enteric drained (ED) pancreas graft survival rates (GSRs) at one-year for 1999-2003 US DD primary SPK cases were BD 85.4% and ED 84.7% (Figure 17); kidney GSRs were BD 92.7% and ED 91.6% (Figure 18). In ED, GSRs were also similar for cases done with (n=887) and without (n=1998) Roux-en-Y. Patient survival was 94.3% (n=797) and 95.3% (n=2,902) respectively. Neither GSRs nor patient survival rates differences were significant.

For 1999-2003 US DD primary PAK cases, pancreas GSRs at 1-year (Figure 19) for ED were lower than for BD, but not significantly. PTA 1-year GSRs (Figure 20) with BD were significantly higher than ED. In ED, 1-year GSRs were significantly lower for PAK cases done with (n=190) vs. without (n=353) Roux-en-Y: 69% vs. 79%; there was no difference in PTA. Patient survival at one year for PAK was 97% BD (n=369), 93% ED (n=550) and for PTA 99% BD (n=199), 98% ED (n=189).
