Historial Era: Technical Failure

TF rates decreased significantly (p=0.0001) over time for cadaver US pancreas transplants in all three categories, SPK, PAK, PTA, from 1988 TF rates of 12.4 % SPK, 13% PAK and 24.3% PTA to 2002 TF rates of 6.4% SPK, 7.7% PAK and 7.4% PTA (Figure 14).  Higher TF rates for PAK and PTA in early years may be due in part to misclassifying some thromboses as technical when they were actually secondary to early rejection.  Changes over time for TF by duct management was published in another report. (Gruessner AC, et. al., International Pancreas Transplant Registry. In: Gruessner RWG, Sutherland, DER, eds.. Transplantation of the Pancreas. Chapter 20. Springer-Verlag: New York, 2003: 539.)
