FOR US 2000-2004 CASES
Donor age distribution has remained fairly constant across eras for all categories. For 2000-2004 primary DD recipients, only 3.4% were >50 years of age. Pancreas GSRs were higher with younger donors and lower with older donors (Figure 20a), primarily due to technical failure (TF) rates (Figure 20b) related to increasing donor age. Pancreas GSRs at 1-year with DDs <50 years vs. DDs ≥50 years were: SPK 80-88% (n=1306) vs. 76%; PAK 71-81% (n=314) vs. 72%; PTA 75-78% (n=123) vs. 63%. Respective TF rates were 5-10% vs. 12% SPK; 6-10% vs. 13% PAK; 8-14% vs. 21% PTA. TF rates were higher for donors ≥50 years or with cerebrocardiovascular (CCV) cause of death vs. those <50 or dying from trauma: 8% vs. 6% SPK and PAK; 17% vs. 7% PTA (p≤0.009). Logistic regression verified higher risk for SPK and PTA with RR 1.49 (p=0.02) and RR 3.62 (p=0.007) respectively (see Table 4 above). When technically successful (TS) cases only were analyzed, there were no GSR differences in these two donor groups.
